On the coast of Acentejo, below La Matanza, there is a tiny village called El Caleton. It’s a place you won’t find in guidebooks – but it’s incredibly charming. The village is beautifully situated along a narrow bay that cuts into the shore, forming a natural marina. There, you’ll find a labyrinth of narrow streets (at times, you may feel like you’re walking through someone’s home), buildings marked by time and the ocean, a small restaurant, and a few great spots for swimming. The drive from Puerto de la Cruz takes about 30 minutes. A word of caution: the road leading to the village is narrow and winding, and the condition of the asphalt leaves much to be desired.
