About a 30-minute drive from Puerto de la Cruz, you’ll find an absolutely fantastic place called Costa el Sauzal. It’s a relatively large area of low-lying coastline, with plenty of small coves, fjords, peninsulas, natural pools, and more.

It’s an excellent spot for walking along the ocean’s edge, admiring the waves, which can be truly spectacular here. You can swim and snorkel in sheltered spots. The area is somewhat developed, with parking, barbecue spots, designated paths, barriers, and ladders that make access to the water easier—all done in a minimalist style that fits well with the rugged nature of this coastline. For us, it’s one of the best places for a short trip or walk, and we keep coming back regularly. Even getting to this place, via a narrow road full of winding curves, is an experience in itself
